An expansive cantilevered deck built to give the appearance of ‘floating’ above a swimming pool is the stunning feature of this major renovation and extension project which successfully modernised a 1980s house at Grange. The owners wanted a contemporary open-plan living area that spilled out to the deck, yet could also be screened. The project involved removing narrow decking and building a steel skeleton to support the much larger cantilevered deck. Internal walls were removed to consolidate the kitchen, lounge and dining rooms, opening up these living areas and linking them directly to the airy deck and surrounding views. Custom-designed high sliding doors with integrated blinds and screens, repainted walls, resurfaced floors and a totally redesigned kitchen completed the dramatic makeover. The renovation also extended to external painting, a remodeled laundry, new front and poolside doors, and revamped pool area. To accommodate an ensuite from the master bedroom, wardrobe doors were removed and an entrance created.
